Cosmos EVM bug exploited in multichain theft; Cosmos Labs reports losses across six networks

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Cosmos Labs reported a multichain theft across six networks after attackers exploited an integer underflow in Cosmos EVM, allowing balances to wrap to extremely large values. Roughly $5.7m in assets were swapped via DEXs and CEXs, with some CEX accounts reportedly frozen. The incident raises near-term security and integration risk for Cosmos EVM-based applications and could pressure liquidity and risk appetite across the ecosystem.

Cosmos Labs said attackers siphoned funds from six blockchain networks between Aug. 20 and Aug. 25 after exploiting an integer underflow vulnerability in Cosmos EVM, a shared software stack used to run Ethereum-style applications. The flaw could cause token balances to wrap around to an extremely large value. Cosmos Labs estimates roughly $2.87 million in stolen assets was swapped via decentralized exchanges, while another $2.85 million was routed through centralized exchanges. The centralized exchange accounts tied to the incident have reportedly been frozen as the investigation continues.
