Coldcard Exploit: Hackers Hit High-Value Wallets First, Take $30M in 10 Minutes
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Chainalysis' analysis of the Coldcard exploit suggests attackers profiled victims and rapidly drained high-value wallets, stealing about $30M within 10 minutes and emptying roughly 500 wallets shortly after. Use of a paid blockchain service account to query victim addresses highlights operational sophistication and potential third-party data-access risk. The incident can pressure near-term crypto risk sentiment by elevating custody and operational-security concerns among large holders.

ME News reported that on Aug. 1 (UTC+8), Bitcoin News monitoring cited Chainalysis findings on a Coldcard exploit tied to losses exceeding $38 million. The analysis indicates the attackers prioritized the largest wallets at the outset—one held $1.8 million—pointing to victim profiling before the transfers began.
About $30 million was siphoned off in the first 10 minutes. Over the next 25 minutes, roughly 500 additional wallets were drained.
Block's Clay Garrett said investigators also determined the attackers used a paid account from a well-known blockchain service provider to look up victim addresses during the operation. The provider's internal logs aligned with the timing and sequence of the queries, and Block said there is no evidence the company knowingly aided the theft. Relevant information has been shared with authorities. (Source: ODAILY)
