BlackRock cuts in-kind BTC-to-IBIT minimum to $1 million, from $25 million
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
BlackRock lowered the minimum for in-kind BTC-to-IBIT exchanges to $1M from $25M, expanding access for eligible large holders to convert bitcoin into ETF shares without selling for cash. The non-taxable, no-dollars mechanism reinforces ETF tax efficiency and can reduce friction and transaction costs around primary-market flows. Near term, this may support deeper liquidity and tighter arbitrage around IBIT creation/redemption.

BlackRock has lowered the minimum size for in-kind exchanges of bitcoin into shares of its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) to $1 million, down from $25 million, according to Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas, citing comments from BlackRock's Robbie Mitchnick. Under the in-kind process, eligible bitcoin holders can deliver BTC directly in exchange for IBIT shares without using U.S. dollars. Mitchnick said the exchange is not a taxable event, enabling holders to shift from bitcoin into ETF shares without first selling into cash. He added that the in-kind creation and redemption mechanism is a major reason ETFs are typically tax-efficient and rarely distribute capital gains.
