Bitcoin jumps to 11-week high near $70,000 as U.S. Treasury expands debt buyback program
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Bitcoin rose to an 11-week high near $70,000 after the U.S. Treasury expanded its long-term Treasury debt repurchase program, which markets interpret as incremental liquidity support. The announcement coincided with a sharp drop in 30-year yields from near multi-decade highs, easing financial conditions and boosting risk appetite. Near-term, this backdrop can lift crypto alongside broader risk assets via improved liquidity expectations.

PANews, Aug. 19 — Cointelegraph reported that Bitcoin rallied sharply after U.S. equity markets opened Wednesday, as investors reacted to the U.S. Treasury's decision to expand its Treasury repurchase program and as liquidity expectations improved. Bitcoin climbed to an intraday peak of $69,749, its highest level since June 2, up roughly 6% on the day.
The U.S. Treasury previously said it will increase the size of long-term Treasury repurchase operations starting Sept. 9, lifting the maximum size per operation from $2 billion to at least $4 billion. Markets interpreted the move as added liquidity support for the long-dated bond market, helping lift broader risk assets.
Following the announcement, the U.S. 30-year Treasury yield fell quickly, dropping about 9 basis points from a nearly 20-year high to 5.19%.
