Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Taps 3iQ to Oversee Bitcoin Allocation Linked to Development Plans

Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) has selected Canadian digital asset manager 3iQ to run an authorization backed by part of its Bitcoin reserves as it works to build a digital-asset investment hub, ChainCatcher reported. Under the partnership, 3iQ will manage a portion of Bitcoin earmarked to support Gelephu's development. The specific amount has not been disclosed. 3iQ also plans to establish a long-term local presence, invest in local talent, and deliver training alongside knowledge transfer. In December 2025, Bhutan said it would allocate up to 10,000 BTC from national holdings to support GMC. Neither side has provided details on the amount placed under management, custody arrangements, or whether the mandate allows lending, derivatives, or other yield-generating strategies. 3iQ CEO Pascal StJean said the firm will apply institutional discipline to the authorization and deploy Bhutan's capital responsibly, transparently, and with a long-term focus. Jigdrel Singay, a member of GMC's board, described 3iQ as one of the city's founding institutional partners.
