Bank of Japan to Speed ETF Sales 2.6x From 2027, Shortening Exit to 43 Years

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The BOJ will accelerate ETF disposals from January 2027, but the pace remains gradual at roughly 0.1% of TSE Prime turnover, while the policy rate stays near 1.25%. Near-term Japanese equity supply is limited, and officials see no major market disruption. The move signals continued policy normalization, but immediate impact on Nikkei and yen assets is modest.

The Bank of Japan will raise annual ETF disposals from 330 billion yen to about 860 billion yen at book value from January 2027, a 161 percent increase approved on Oct 30. The bank estimates the faster pace would take 43 years to sell its end September holdings instead of 112 years. Officials said disposals since January caused no major market impact. The overnight rate target stayed near 1.25 percent.
