BOJ Raises Policy Rate to 1.25%, Highest in 31 Years

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
The BOJ's rate hike to 1.25%—the highest in 31 years—signals a firmer inflation-fighting stance amid rising energy costs and yen weakness. Higher domestic yields can tighten financial conditions and alter global carry-trade dynamics, raising FX volatility and potentially pressuring risk assets via higher discount rates. The split vote highlights policy sensitivity, but the move reinforces Japan's shift away from ultra-easy policy.

The Bank of Japan lifted its policy rate to 1.25%, its second increase this year, taking borrowing costs to their highest level in more than three decades. The decision passed with a 7-2 vote, with seven board members in favor and two opposed. The BOJ pointed to inflation risks as prices move toward its 2% target. It also cited higher crude oil prices, stronger AI-related demand, and a weaker yen as additional factors supporting the rate hike.
