BaFin's rejection of futurum bank AG's MiCA CASP license keeps Bitcoin.de trading suspended, delaying its planned shift from P2P marketplace to a broader brokerage offering. The decision underscores regulatory gatekeeping risk under MiCA and may chill participation by German retail users reliant on local venues. Bitcoin Group's potential appeal or reapplication and interim use of regulated partners add uncertainty to near-term service continuity and regional liquidity.

Germany's financial watchdog BaFin has rejected futurum bank AG's application for a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), Cointelegraph reported, cited by ChainCatcher. Futurum bank AG is a subsidiary of Bitcoin Group SE.
With the license denied, Bitcoin Group SE said cryptocurrency trading on its Bitcoin.de platform remains suspended. The company said it is reviewing BaFin's decision and may appeal or file a new application at a later date.
Bitcoin Group SE added it is evaluating alternative operating models and aims to restart trading as soon as possible via regulated partners.
Bitcoin.de, which began as a peer-to-peer marketplace and has more than 1.1 million registered users, had planned to complete an upgrade by the end of June into a brokerage platform supporting over 100 cryptocurrencies, with exchange and staking features. The rollout has been delayed pending MiCA approval, and trading on the platform has been largely paused since June 12.
