21 global financial institutions plan stablecoin venture, targeting H1 2027 debut

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
A consortium of 21 major global banks planning a USD stablecoin (with future G7 expansion) signals accelerating institutional adoption of tokenized money for payments and settlement. Emphasis on bank-grade compliance and alignment with the U.S. GENIUS Act and EU MiCA reduces regulatory uncertainty, potentially improving market structure and on/off-ramps for digital assets. Near-term, this supports broader crypto liquidity and legitimizes stablecoin infrastructure as core financial plumbing.

According to BlockBeats, 21 international financial institutions said on Sept. 1 that they plan to set up a new company in the second half of 2026 to support stablecoin issuance, with the venture's name to be announced separately. The company will initially focus on U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoins, with plans to expand to additional G7 currency stablecoins over time, prioritizing a euro stablecoin. Participating institutions include Bank of America, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Wells Fargo, BBVA, Santander Bank, MUFG Bank, among others. The initiative is positioned for wholesale, institutional, and retail use cases, including cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement. The group said the project will incorporate bank-grade compliance, governance, and institutional risk-management frameworks, and is designed to meet regulatory requirements such as the U.S. GENIUS Act and the EU's MiCA. The stablecoin product is targeted for an official launch in the first half of 2027.
