Bank of America, Citi and Goldman Sachs Join 21-Institution Consortium to Launch U.S. Dollar Stablecoin

AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
A consortium of 21 major banks and asset managers plans to form a stablecoin issuer in 2H26 and launch a USD stablecoin in 1H27, targeting cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement under U.S. GENIUS Act and EU MiCA compliance. This signals accelerating institutional adoption and regulatory normalization of tokenized cash, likely improving on-chain liquidity and settlement credibility, with positive read-through for broader crypto market infrastructure.

A consortium of 21 major financial institutions—including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Fidelity Investments, Wells Fargo and MUFG—has agreed to form a new company in the second half of 2026 to support stablecoin issuance. The group aims to roll out a U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoin in the first half of 2027. It plans to expand to additional G7 currency stablecoins thereafter, with the euro identified as the top priority. The planned stablecoin is intended for wholesale, institutional and retail applications, including cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement. The consortium said the project is expected to align with the U.S. GENIUS Act and, where applicable, the EU's MiCA framework.
