Critics argue that routing these funds to a Coinbase Prime address and liquidating them may conflict with Executive Order 14233, which directs that forfeited Bitcoin be added to the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve rather than sold. The case also raises concerns about the Southern District of New York's continued prosecutions of noncustodial crypto developers despite an April 7, 2025 DOJ memo limiting such actions.
