Vitalik Buterin: ZKEVMs + PeerDAS solve Ethereum's trilemma, 4-year roadmap to 2030

On January 3, 2026, Vitalik Buterin said on X that Ethereum's pairing of ZKEVMs and PeerDAS now live on mainnet overcomes the blockchain trilemma by delivering decentralization, consensus, and high bandwidth. He cited proving times falling from 16 minutes to 16 seconds and 99% of blocks provable under 10 seconds, with a four-year rollout extending through 2030.
