US Arctic Storm Cuts Over 110 EH/s of Bitcoin Hashrate as Miners Protect Power Grids
During a severe Arctic storm in the United States, Bitcoin miners reportedly shut down more than 110 exahashes per second of hashrate, slowing block times to around 12 minutes while easing pressure on regional power grids. Major pools such as FoundryUSA and Luxor saw sizeable weekend declines in computing power, as a sprawling 1,800‑mile winter system threatened up to 60 million people with outages and travel disruption across more than a dozen states. Mining operators in Texas highlighted their role as large flexible loads, curtailing usage on request to help maintain grid stability compared with the 2021 crisis.
