India's FIU registers 49 crypto exchanges under AML rules and blocks 25 offshore platforms

In its 2024–2025 annual report, India's Financial Intelligence Unit confirmed that 49 cryptocurrency exchanges fall under the country's anti-money laundering framework, with 45 registered domestically and 4 based overseas. The report also detailed how transaction monitoring has uncovered high-risk activities such as fraud, online gambling, and informal cross-border transfers, while authorities have blocked 25 non-compliant offshore platforms from serving Indian users.
