1) Pentagon: U.S. forces in the Middle East ready to act against Iran
At a Pentagon press briefing, U.S. Secretary of Defense Hegseth said that if Iran does not agree to a peace deal, U.S. forces in the Middle East are prepared to resume combat operations. Options cited included blockading Iran and striking infrastructure, power, and energy facilities. CME FedWatch data showed that after today's U.S. initial jobless claims report, the market-implied probability of the Federal Reserve keeping rates unchanged in April is 99.5%. The probability of a 25-basis-point hike stands at 0.5%.
4) UK FCA proposes tighter crypto oversight, effective Oct. 25, 2027
The UK Financial Conduct Authority proposed bringing most cryptoasset activities under the Financial Services and Markets Act, with implementation targeted for Oct. 25, 2027. Under the proposal, firms that hold customer cryptoassets for more than 24 hours or control customer permissions would need a full custody license. Validators, node operators, and stablecoin issuers would face stricter requirements, including removing certain technology exemptions and requiring UK-based issuers to control the full stablecoin lifecycle. Relevant businesses would have five months from Sept. 30 to apply for authorization.
5) Abraxas Capital deposits 1,993 BTC to Kraken
Lookonchain said Abraxas Capital (Alpha Bitcoin Fund) deposited 1,993 BTC to Kraken, worth about $148 million. Since March 14, it has deposited a total of 9,582 BTC (roughly $691 million) and currently holds 20,300 BTC valued at about $1.51 billion.
6) Rhea Finance hit in exploit; estimated loss $7.6 million
CertiK reported that DeFi protocol Rhea Finance was attacked, with the attacker withdrawing at least $7.6 million. The exploit reportedly involved creating a fraudulent token contract and adding liquidity to a newly created pool, misleading oracles and the verification layer. CertiK shared related on-chain addresses; the incident remains under investigation.
