U.S. Department of Government Efficiency Disbanded Eight Months Before July 2026 End Date

The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), established in January by President Trump to reduce government size, has been disbanded with eight months remaining before its scheduled July 2026 end date, the Office of Personnel Management said. Director Cooper stated on Nov. 24 that the department "simply does not exist" and is no longer a "centralized agency," marking the administration's first confirmation of the dissolution. The Musk-led department had conducted sweeping reforms in Washington, rapidly downsizing federal agencies and reallocating budgets toward Trump's priorities.
