Syscoin Identifies Cross-Chain Relay Vulnerability Resulting in 50 Billion SYS Exploit

According to a preliminary post-incident report released by Syscoin on June 8, a validation weakness in the network's cross-chain relay pathway enabled an attacker to illegally mint approximately 50 billion SYS on the UTXO side. In response to the breach, Syscoin immediately suspended all cross-chain functionality. The project team noted that the illicitly minted funds have been moved and split, with the majority currently concentrated in two specific addresses. Syscoin has engaged with multiple cryptocurrency exchanges and ecosystem partners to monitor or freeze assets linked to the contaminated UTXOs. The team has successfully identified the affected validation pathways and is executing a remediation plan focused on deploying security fixes and correcting the unauthorized SYS outputs. Users are advised to refrain from platform interactions until cross-chain services are restored and further updates are provided.
