Solana Validator Count Drops 68% to 795 Since March 2023 Peak
Solana's validator count fell to 795 from a March 2023 peak of 2560, a 68% decline, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 29. Industry participants said rising operating costs and zero-fee competition by large validators are squeezing smaller operators beyond the pruning of "zombie nodes." Operators face roughly 401 SOL per year in voting fees and up to 1.1 SOL daily for voting transactions, while the network's Nakamoto Coefficient dropped from 31 to 20, indicating stake is concentrating with fewer large validators, Cointelegraph reported.
