SEC Corporation Finance Division to Develop Crypto Asset Taxonomy and Investment Contract Framework
Jim Moloney, head of the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance, said the division is preparing two recommendations on cryptocurrency assets for the Commission, Odaily Planet Daily reports. The first would issue interpretive guidance establishing a clear taxonomy for crypto assets and a framework to assess when a crypto asset constitutes an investment contract. The second would propose a regulatory structure for the issuance and sale of cryptocurrency assets deemed securities. Moloney added the division plans to enhance market clarity through statements and no-action letters, while other SEC initiatives include implementing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, offering issuers semi-annual reporting options, and easing Regulation S-K disclosure requirements.
