Tusk to revive crypto regulation bill for third try after two vetoes
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Tuesday his government will bring back a cryptocurrency regulation bill this week, marking a third attempt after President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the previous two versions. The updated draft focuses on tougher penalties for fraud.
The renewed push follows the Zondacrypto scandal, with about PLN 350 million (€82 million) under investigation. Authorities say the company's CEO fled to Israel last month, the founder disappeared in 2022, and Polish intelligence has linked the platform to Russian organized crime.
Tusk also told parliament that unregulated crypto is being used by Belarusian security services to finance illegal migration into Poland.
