Crypto hit by 40 major attacks in April; losses jump to $647M
PeckShieldAlert reported 40 major crypto-related attacks in April 2026, with total losses reaching $647 million. The figure marks a 1,140% increase from March's $52.2 million.
Two incidents ranked among the ten largest hacks since 2021: KelpDAO, which lost $292 million, and DriftProtocol, which lost $285 million.
In the KelpDAO case, the attacker allegedly exploited Aave by depositing rsETH as collateral to borrow large amounts of ETH, then laundering the proceeds into BTC. The activity raised concerns about potential bad debt within Aave's ecosystem.
DeFi United said it is coordinating efforts to cover the liquidity gap in a bid to prevent broader systemic spillovers. (PeckShieldAlert)
