Kraken reports extortion attempt tied to insider access incident

Crypto exchange Kraken said a criminal group is trying to extort the company by threatening to publish videos that allegedly show internal systems and a small amount of client data. Kraken said there was no breach of its systems, customer funds were never at risk, and it will not pay. The company said it identified two insider incidents involving support staff who accessed limited client information. The activity affected about 2,000 accounts, roughly 0.02% of users. Kraken said the access was revoked and law enforcement was notified.
