Iran Signals Willingness to Reopen Hormuz After Trump Scraps Talks
Iran has reportedly offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. lifts its naval blockade and ends the war, with nuclear negotiations deferred to a later stage. The White House said President Donald Trump and his national security team reviewed the proposal on Monday.
Trump has taken a tougher public line, cancelling a planned Pakistan trip by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, saying discussions will now take place "by telephone," and posting that the U.S. "still has all the cards." Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed the offer.
Pressure from the blockade is mounting. U.S. Central Command said 38 ships have been stopped or forced to turn back. Brent crude held near $105 a barrel as markets opened the week pricing in both diplomatic risk and potential supply disruption.
