HIVE to Build 320MW Toronto-Area AI "Superfactory"; Shares Jump 35% at Monday Open
ChainCatcher reports that HIVE Digital, a Bitcoin miner repositioning as an AI infrastructure provider, plans to develop a 320MW AI infrastructure campus in the Toronto region, targeting one of Canada's largest sovereign AI "superfacilities." HIVE shares surged more than 35% at the open on Monday following the announcement.
The company said the project will be led by its high-performance computing subsidiary, BUZZ. Once fully built out, the site is expected to house more than 100,000 GPUs, with operations slated to start in the second half of 2027.
Total investment is estimated at about CAD 3.5 billion (roughly USD 2.55 billion), earmarked for constructing large-scale data centers to train and run AI models.
HIVE has been steadily shifting away from traditional Bitcoin mining toward AI and high-performance computing in recent years, including expansions of GPU clusters and AI data center operations in Paraguay and Sweden.
