Ethereum Fusaka Upgrade Deploys PeerDAS, Boosting Data Availability Sampling
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said on Dec. 4 that the Fusaka upgrade has deployed PeerDAS, enabling sharding and data availability sampling capabilities. The upgrade increased blob capacity and may reduce Layer 2 fees by 40-60%, based on recent analysis, while allowing quadratic growth in transaction scale on L2 networks. Buterin noted Layer 1 remains constrained pending zero-knowledge EVM maturation, requiring distributed block building and sharded mempools, with the next two years focused on optimizing PeerDAS stability and extending to L1 gas limits for broader throughput.
