CFTC Chair Says Regulated Crypto Perpetual Futures Could Launch in U.S. Within Weeks

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Michael Selig said at a Milken Institute panel in Washington, D.C., that the agency is working to introduce fully regulated perpetual futures for cryptocurrencies in the U.S. market within the next month. Perpetual futures are crypto derivatives without expiry dates currently concentrated on offshore platforms, and earlier regulatory approaches had contributed to liquidity moving overseas, he noted. Selig added that guidance on crypto-linked prediction markets is also expected, following prior CFTC comments on its jurisdiction over event contract platforms. During the same discussion, Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins said broader digital asset reforms hinge on congressional action, as lawmakers debate a market structure bill that could redefine oversight boundaries between the SEC and CFTC.
