Brazil's new finance minister halts crypto tax consultation ahead of October election
Brazil's new finance minister, Dario Durigan, has put on hold a planned public consultation on crypto taxation as the government turns its attention to October's presidential election. The pause comes after former minister Fernando Haddad resigned to run for governor of São Paulo. Brazil tops Latin America and ranks fifth worldwide on the Chainalysis Crypto Adoption Index. Between July 2024 and June 2025, the country received about $318.8 billion in crypto value, with around 90% of flows tied to stablecoins.
