SEC May Set Stage for Tokenized Stocks to Trade on DeFi Platforms

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could introduce an innovation-focused exemption as early as this week that would enable tokenized stocks to trade across decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, Bloomberg reported. Under the proposal, third parties could issue blockchain-based stock tokens without needing approval from the underlying companies. Eligibility could be revoked if token holders are denied shareholder rights such as voting or dividends. The initiative may speed up institutional uptake of tokenized equities within crypto markets.
