Bithumb Recovers 99.7% of Mistaken BTC Airdrop, to Pay KRW 20,000 Per User and Waive Fees

Bithumb said on Feb. 8 it had recovered 99.7% of the mistakenly airdropped Bitcoin and fully covered the remaining 0.3% (about 1,788 coins) with its own assets, BlockBeats reports. As of 22:42:52 on Feb. 7, 2026, its Bitcoin asset consistency was restored to 100% and all customer assets were protected. The exchange will grant KRW 20,000 to every user who accessed its app or website during the incident, reimburse users who sold BTC at low prices 100% of the price difference plus an additional 10% as consolation, and waive trading fees across all tokens for 7 days from 00:00 on Feb. 9, 2026. Korea's Financial Supervisory Service conducted an on-site inspection at 13:00 on Feb. 7; an earlier error distributed 2,000 BTC instead of 2,000 Korean won, causing Bitcoin on Bithumb to trade 10% below other markets at one point.
