Ex-OpenAI researcher Aschenbrenner boosts exposure to Bitcoin miners, builds major shorts in semiconductors including NVIDIA and AMD
Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI researcher, has sharply increased the size of his disclosed portfolio, lifting it from $5.5 billion to $13.67 billion as of March 31, 2026, according to ChainCatcher citing CoinDesk.
Filings show Aschenbrenner has been adding aggressively to Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure plays. Core positions include miners IREN, Core Scientific, Riot Platforms, CleanSpark, Bitfarms, Bitdeer and Hive Digital. The thesis centers on their access to power and data-center capacity, which he expects to gain value as demand for AI compute accelerates.
At the same time, he established roughly $7.46 billion in semiconductor-related short exposure, including sizable put positions in the VanEck Semiconductor ETF and in individual names such as NVIDIA, Oracle and Broadcom.
