a16z Builds $356M Position in HYPE, Emerging as Largest External Holder

Huo Xing Cai Jing cited on-chain analyst Ai Yi (@ai_9684xtpa) as saying a16z (@a16zcrypto) may now be the sixth-largest holder of HYPE—and potentially the biggest external institutional holder, with the top five holders largely tied to Hype's own ecosystem. On-chain data indicates a16z began accumulating HYPE at scale in August 2025. It has purchased about 9.18 million HYPE worth roughly $356 million at an average entry price of $38.77. After accounting for transfers to exchanges and market makers, it still controls around 8.844 million HYPE spread across dozens of addresses. Over the past 11 hours alone, a16z added 206,000 HYPE (about $9.95 million). Since April 16, its net accumulation totals 2.35 million HYPE (about $102 million). Since the start of 2026, it has added 4.92 million HYPE (about $183 million). At current prices, its unrealized profit is estimated at $79.29 million.
