France sets June 30 deadline for unlicensed crypto firms to comply with MiCA or exit
France's financial regulator, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), has given crypto firms operating in the country without a license until June 30 to either secure authorization or shut down in an orderly manner.
AMF President Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani announced the deadline at a press event on Thursday, Reuters reported. Firms that fail to meet the requirement risk prosecution and will be required to implement "orderly wind-down" plans, including transitioning customers off their platforms.
The move lands as EU policymakers debate how MiCA oversight should work in practice. While MiCA allows crypto service providers to obtain a license in any of the EU's 27 member states and "passport" services across the bloc, some member states are pushing for the Paris-based European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) to take a more centralized role.
With fewer than five weeks remaining, the AMF's deadline shapes up as an early enforcement test of MiCA's ability to curb unlicensed crypto activity.
