Whale liquidations and repositioning surge between 10:00 and 20:00 as BTC and ETH longs face losses
Between 10:00 and 20:00 on January 8, several large crypto traders adjusted positions across BTC and ETH, Hyperinsight data show. On the long side, a whale closed $350 million in BTC longs, realizing about $3.6 million in losses, while another cut ETH longs with a $578,000 realized loss and a remaining $5.7 million unrealized loss. Known trader James Wynn also reduced ETH long exposure, locking in a $24,400 loss while holding 838.41 ETH in 25x leveraged longs. On the short side, trader pension-usdt.eth closed $63 million in ETH shorts with $393,000 in realized profit, and another whale exited 136 BTC longs at a $22,000 loss before opening 40x leveraged shorts on 80 BTC, valued at about $7.26 million.
