SEC and CFTC Classify BTC, ETH, SOL as Digital Commodities in Joint Guidance
The SEC and CFTC released joint guidance stating that most crypto assets do not qualify as securities, classifying Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana as digital commodities. The regulators said staking and airdrop activities are not securities transactions by themselves. A crypto asset falls under SEC jurisdiction only when sold as an investment contract, the guidance notes.
