BTC and ETH Implied Volatility Hits Recent Highs as Options Market Prices In Rising Macro Uncertainty
BTC short-term implied volatility climbed above 65% and ETH short-term implied volatility surpassed 80% on March 9, marking recent peaks as traders price in heightened market swings, Greeks.live analyst Adam said. Three major U.S. macro releases are scheduled this week, with February CPI due Wednesday, unemployment data Thursday, and the January PCE price index Friday. Adam noted the more substantial macro factor behind current sentiment is the disruption of global oil transportation linked to military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that implied volatility across major maturities has risen notably since last week while skew has decreased markedly in recent days, signaling stronger demand for downside protection.
