Bithumb Mistakenly Sends Over $40 Billion in Bitcoin to Users, Authorities Order Returns
Bithumb mistakenly distributed over $40 billion worth of Bitcoin to its users days ago, the exchange disclosed. Binance assisted in recovering a large portion of the mis-sent assets, though around 1,800 Bitcoins were sold by users before measures could be implemented. Bithumb acknowledged the error stemmed from platform shortcomings, including insufficient safeguards and lack of segregated accounts, and authorities have stated users who profited are legally required to return the funds.
