New York Court Halts Bid for Default Judgment Over 39,069 Dormant Bitcoin Wallets

A New York Supreme Court judge paused proceedings on June 5, 2026 after attorney Ian R. Cohen filed an amicus brief challenging claims over 39,069 dormant bitcoin wallets valued at about $293 billion. The case, filed March 11 and amended May 1, seeks a declaratory judgment that the wallets were abandoned under New York's lost-and-found statute. On June 6, 2026, 47.26 BTC linked to a defendant address moved onchain, adding to other recent transfers cited as undermining the abandonment theory.
