Metaplanet climbs to No. 3 public Bitcoin holder with 40,177 BTC, targets 100K in 2026

Japan-based Metaplanet moved up to become the third-largest public company Bitcoin holder after buying 5,075 BTC worth $405M in Q1 2026, lifting its total to 40,177 BTC. The company says it plans to reach 100K BTC in 2026 and 210K BTC by 2027, but its current stash shows an unrealized loss of $1.5B as the position is valued at $2.7B versus a $4.1B cost basis.
