Apple has asked some suppliers to scale back iPhone 18 Pro component production after demand came in below expectations, with October orders reduced by at least 15%, Nikkei Asia reported. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max start at $1,199 and $1,299, respectively, each $100 higher than the models they replace. Apple has attributed broader price increases across its lineup to AI-driven memory chip cost increases, even though the new Pro models keep the same RAM as last year.

Apple’s U.S. App Store commission revenue has fallen 18% since the start of 2026, while consumer spending in the second quarter dropped 6% year over year. Services revenue came in at $30.7 billion in the June quarter, below analysts’ $31.4 billion expectation. Apple said on its earnings call that regulatory changes have begun to weigh on Services growth.

TSMC said it will add $100 billion to its U.S. chipmaking investment, taking its total commitment to $265 billion. The plan includes funding for up to four additional plants and an advanced packaging facility, with the buildout targeting 12 U.S. facilities focused on 2 nanometer chips. Apple was identified as the largest customer for TSMC’s Arizona site, where some A16 chips have already been produced. Nvidia and Broadcom were also listed among key U.S. customers, while Apple has separately pledged more U.S. manufacturing investment and agreed to buy Intel chips in exchange for a semiconductor tariff exemption.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company will inevitably raise prices for products including the iPhone, iPad and Mac as DRAM and SSD costs surge, and it has already lifted the Mac mini starting price while discontinuing several lower-end configurations. TechInsights said the iPhone 18 Pro would need to rise by about $270 to maintain Apple’s current profit margin. The memory shortage is being driven by AI server chips taking priority at suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, keeping consumer-device supply tight.
