Anthropic's $16.8 billion quarter may aid its IPO but not the broader AI trade
Anthropic reported $16.8 billion in third-quarter revenue, an adjusted gross margin of 85% and positive free cash flow. The figures suggest the company's artificial intelligence investments are starting to pay off. They may strengthen the case for its planned IPO, yet they have not eased doubts about the wider AI sector. Global AI stocks remain under pressure from rising bond yields, oil-driven inflation and funding concerns at companies such as CoreWeave.

Cotton prices rebound on yield-drop fears and improving demand
Indian cotton prices rebounded by around ₹3,000–4,000 per candy last week to about ₹68,000, as slow new-crop arrivals and deficient rainfall stoked fears of yield losses. Farmers are holding back their crop in anticipation of higher prices, while the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) raised its auction price for the 2025-26 crop by ₹500 per candy. Cumulative arrivals reached about 5 lakh bales in the first nine days of the 2026-27 season, with roughly 78,000 bales arriving on Monday. Prices have risen by ₹3,000 per candy over the past 10 days.

India sets 14 lakh tonnes sugar sales quota for Oct 1–15 as new season starts
India’s Food Ministry set a domestic sugar sales quota of 14 lakh tonnes for Oct 1–15, including 1 lakh tonnes for standalone refiners. The new sugar season begins on Oct 1, with mills in Maharashtra and western Uttar Pradesh preparing to start cane crushing earlier than usual from around Oct 15 and Oct 20, respectively. Under the fortnightly quota, mills must sell at least 45% in the first week and the remainder in the second week. The move is aimed at boosting supply ahead of Dussehra to help cool sugar prices.

Softer global prices and higher arrivals push India cotton to ₹64,500–65,500 per candy
Global cotton prices have weakened, with New York ICE December cotton futures falling from a late-August peak of 93 cents per pound to about 80.13 cents per pound. India’s domestic cotton prices have eased to ₹64,500–65,500 per candy, while Cotton Corporation of India auction rates have been cut by about ₹1,200 over the past two days. Cottonseed prices have also declined by ₹300–400, as arrivals rise and demand remains subdued.
