Brent crude climbs about 4% as Trump flags Iran talks; Nasdaq falls 1.5%
A new tanker attack in the Persian Gulf, along with hurricane-driven production cuts in the Gulf of Mexico, lifted Brent crude by more than 5% at one point. The gain later narrowed to around 4% after President Donald Trump said the U.S. is holding “productive discussions” with Iran and would not attack before the midterm elections. Higher oil prices weighed on U.S. equities, with the Nasdaq Composite down 1.5%.
