A Kenya Airways flight, KQ784, suffered a tyre failure while landing at Cape Town International Airport in South Africa, leaving the aircraft disabled on the main runway and disrupting operations. As a result, inbound flights were diverted to other airports and some services faced delays. By 17:30, 21 arriving aircraft had been diverted, according to Flightradar24.

ArcelorMittal South Africa (Amsa) issued a half-year trading update, warning that headline loss per share for the six months to endJune is expected to widen by 45% to 51% year on year, to as much as R1.37. The stock fell 7% on Wednesday morning and was trading at R1.29 by midmorning, still up 37% from a year ago. The update came a day before results are due, near the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) deadline requiring disclosure of a 20% comparable change in profit figures once a company has a “reasonable degree of certainty.” The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), which holds about 8% of Amsa, last year extended a loan to help stave off a closure.

The Southern African Development Community real-time gross settlement system (SADC-RTGS) on Monday formally added Angola’s kwanza as a settlement currency, marking its first expansion beyond the South African rand since the platform launched in 2013. The move is aimed at cutting the costs and delays that come from converting intraregional trade into U.S. dollars and improving settlement efficiency. The system processed about $3.77 billion of trade and interbank cross-border transactions across its 15 member countries in 2025.
