Taiwan indicts nine over illegal AI server exports to mainland China, including Nvidia and Super Micro staff
Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted nine people over the illegal export of high-end AI servers to mainland China, including staff from Nvidia and Super Micro. Prosecutors said the servers carried B300 graphics processing units that are banned from sale to China, with some shipments routed via Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong. The case comes as U.S.-China controls on AI chip exports continue to tighten, underscoring compliance risks for companies operating in the supply chain.

Salmonella outbreak tied to jalapeños traced to Sinaloa grower and Coast Citrus Distributors
U.S. regulators have traced jalapeño peppers linked to a multistate salmonella outbreak to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, and to distributor Coast Citrus Distributors. At least 345 people in 27 states have been reported sick, with 36 hospitalizations. Of 191 people interviewed, 93% said they ate at Mexican-style restaurants—including Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba—between June 14 and July 14, according to the FDA. Chipotle shares slid nearly 10% and Sweetgreen fell 14% after hours as the companies removed jalapeños from menus.

Fed Chair Warsh stresses political independence, puts inflation fight first
New Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh said the central bank will remain politically independent and made clear that bringing inflation down is his top priority. Inflation rose to a three-year high of 4.2% in May after the Iran war lifted oil and gasoline prices, but expectations have cooled marginally as fuel prices retreated following a peace agreement. Warsh declined to outline a policy path, even as markets still expect a possible rate hike in September. A steady labor market, with unemployment at 4.3%, has also reduced the case for rate cuts, while heavy AI-related investment is lifting some equipment prices in the near term even as Warsh argues it could curb inflation over time.
