SpaceX plans 125,000-acre Louisiana launch site with about 30 rocket launches per day
SpaceX says it will build a 125,000-acre launch facility in Louisiana that could send up about 30 rockets per day. Louisiana Economic Development says the deal would bring $100 billion in investment and around 10,000 jobs. Economic development records show SpaceX would pay the Vermilion Parish government about $25 million annually in exchange for avoiding billions of dollars in property taxes over 25 years. The planned spaceport site is about a 45-minute drive south from Abbeville.

U.S. tariff refunds top $160 billion after court ruling, but consumers largely left out
After the Supreme Court in February found many Trump-era tariffs illegal, the federal government has refunded more than $160 billion in duties. Home Depot said it received about $730 million in refunds last quarter, but it did not outline any plan to reimburse customers. Because many retailers folded tariff costs into overall prices rather than itemizing them, consumers may have little practical path to recover what they paid.

Iran war curbs Hormuz traffic, leaving Shell Pearl GTL half offline for at least a year and driving motor oil costs higher
The war in Iran has constrained traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and damaged Qatar’s Shell Pearl GTL plant, the world’s largest Group III base oil facility, leaving half of its capacity offline for at least a year. More than 45% of U.S. Group III base oil imports come from the Middle East, and the material is a key input for synthetic motor oil. Base oil prices are up more than 200% from pre-war levels as inventories run down, and some auto repair shops have already seen retail motor-oil prices rise about 60%. The disruption amounts to a meaningful near- to medium-term supply shock for crude-linked products, including motor fuels and other energy derivatives.
