Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called on the ruling alliance to urgently address what it described as a breakdown of law and order in Balochistan, threats to Pakistan’s GSP+ trade status, daily fuel price increases and a “manufactured” wheat crisis. The party demanded steps including a revised security strategy for Balochistan, compliance with international conventions tied to GSP+, and cuts to petroleum levies and taxes. PTI also opposed the government’s decision to import one million tonnes of wheat, arguing that Pakistan’s 2026 harvest and carryover stocks already cover national needs. It further urged an immediate halt to sugar exports and the transparent release of PASSCO stocks to curb what it said were engineered price spikes.

In the international market, gold slipped US$36 to US$3,994 per ounce. Silver also weakened, with 24K silver down Rs126 per tola to Rs6,029 and international silver down US$1.26 to US$55.50 per ounce. The association also reported declines in per-10-gram rates for both gold and silver.

Larkana Deputy Commissioner and Controller General of Prices Tarique Manzoor Chandio has imposed official price controls on wheat flour in the district with immediate effect under Section 7 of the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 2005. The ex-mill price for wheat flour has been set at Rs. 115 per kilogram, chakki (stoneground) flour at Rs. 117 per kilogram, and the retail price at Rs. 120 per kilogram. Fine flour has been fixed at Rs. 122 per kilogram ex-mill and Rs. 125 per kilogram at retail. Mill owners, chakki operators, wholesalers, retailers and other traders have been told to display the official price list and comply, with legal action for violations.

Pakistan’s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a sharp cut in fuel prices, lowering petrol by Rs74 per litre to Rs299 and high-speed diesel by Rs67 to Rs311. The new rates took effect immediately as international oil prices continued to fall amid easing geopolitical tensions and improved stability in key energy supply routes. The government said it was passing through lower global energy costs to domestic consumers under the existing fuel-pricing mechanism.
