The Federal Trade Commission and attorneys general from 22 states have sued Amazon, alleging the company used hidden surcharges to systematically overcharge advertisers by more than $20 billion beginning in 2019. The lawsuit says Amazon manipulated its ad pricing and auction systems after a 2019 rule change without notifying advertisers. The case covers sponsored products ads, brands ads and display ads shown alongside search results.

A U.S. federal court approved Google’s $700 million antitrust settlement to resolve a multistate lawsuit alleging the company monopolized Android app distribution and in-app payments. Washington state consumers are expected to receive about $13 million, with around 2.4 million residents potentially eligible. Nationwide, eligible users will be compensated based on their Google Play spending between August 2016 and September 2023.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) fined UBS Financial Services $125 million, the largest civil penalty ever imposed on a broker-dealer for anti-money laundering violations. Regulators said the firm willfully violated the Bank Secrecy Act by failing to adequately oversee more than 50,000 foreign-currency wire transfers worth over $10 billion. Authorities also said UBS did not conduct proper due diligence on high-risk customers with ties to Russia and Latin America, according to Reuters.
