Neo co-founder Erik Zhang has finalized NEP-20, a wallet-based authentication standard that enables users to sign in to websites, games, and apps with a Neo wallet rather than usernames and passwords. First proposed in March 2021 and revisited with active review in late March 2026, the specification now carries an "Accepted" label in the Neo Enhancement Proposals repository. NEP-20 relies on an off-chain Challenge/Response signature flow and currently supports ECDSA-P256.

Neo co-founder Da Hongfei released an independent Agreed-Upon Procedures review confirming seven digital asset balances held by Neo Global Development (NGD) in a Binance account as of March 30 at 6:37 a.m. UTC. The review verified the account ownership and matched Binance-reported quantities to a management-prepared list, covering assets including USDC 111,536,196.92 and BTC 1,110.34. The report provides quantities only and states it is not an audit or assurance engagement.

BaneLabs has released the Neo Oracle Gateway, enabling Neo X smart contracts to request and receive external data via Neo N3's built-in oracle on both MainNet and TestNet. Using the Message Bridge, Neo X contracts can send oracle calls to Neo N3 and receive results back without leaving the EVM environment. The launch also includes 3vm, a tool for monitoring and debugging bridge activity and testing oracle requests end-to-end.

Neo X has rolled out TestNet v0.5.2, a patch upgrade to its EVM-compatible blockchain that finalizes its Geth v1.15-style architecture and revises peer-to-peer block broadcasting. The update adds execution-layer blob storage and related APIs for EIP-4844, which may require around 288 GB of disk space, and introduces fixes for snap sync and DKG-related anti-MEV issues. Node operators must upgrade from earlier versions to stay synchronized and update validator configuration flags before MainNet deployment.

NeoBurger, a smart contract staking protocol launched in 2021, will wind down operations following Neo's planned overhaul of voting rewards and staking. Services continue until May 1, 2026; GAS distribution stops from May 1 to Aug. 1; all functionality ends after Aug. 1. Users are advised to redeem bNEO and withdraw funds.

Between January 19 and January 25, Neo co-founder Da Hongfei shared a preliminary financial report stating the project held more than US $430 million in total assets as of year-end 2025 and outlined a plan to direct all capital toward NEO, GAS, and ecosystem growth. Over the same period, the core team rolled out Neo-CLI v3.9.0 with a Feb. 3 MainNet hard fork deadline, Neo SPCC published the NeoGo v0.116.0 update, and various community activities, governance talks, and game development milestones advanced across the network.

The Neo core development team announced Neo‑CLI v3.9.0 on Jan. 19, with deployment to the T5 TestNet scheduled for Jan. 21 and MainNet activation planned for Feb. 3. The release introduces fee reductions, a native Treasury contract, wallet and security upgrades, and requires a hard fork. Hotfixes v3.9.1 and v3.9.2 were issued on Jan. 21, and operators must move to v3.9.2 before the MainNet fork.
