SpaceX Bets a 1% Share of the Phone War Is Enough to Win
SpaceX agreed to buy a nationwide set of wireless spectrum licenses from Grain Management for about $8 billion in cash, picking up as much as 79 MHz of airwaves. The deal gives the company the ability to sell mobile service directly to consumers, aimed at the $222 billion in combined annual wireless revenue booked by the three largest U.S. carriers. Starlink already runs at $1.66 billion in operating profit, roughly covering the company's losses in rockets and AI. That cash flow underpins the expansion.
