What Is Across Protocol (ACX) and How Does It Work?



Across Protocol (ACX) is a fast, secure, and capital-efficient cross-chain bridge that lets you move assets between Ethereum and major Layer-2 networks with minimal cost. It uses a unique “intent-based” design where users specify the asset they want to receive, and relayers fill the transfer instantly. This makes bridging much faster and cheaper compared to traditional multi-sig bridges.

Across works through a single liquidity pool on Ethereum combined with UMA’s Optimistic Oracle, which verifies transfers without relying on multi-chain trust assumptions. Relayers front the funds on the destination chain, while the protocol later settles transactions back on Ethereum. This approach removes the risks tied to fragmented liquidity and multi-sig bridge vulnerabilities.

The ACX token powers the ecosystem through governance, incentives, and relayer rewards. ACX holders participate in decisions that shape the protocol’s fees, upgrades, and treasury usage. ACX (Across Protocol) is a cross-chain bridge protocol and governance token that began in 2021. The project was co-founded by Hart Lambur along with the team behind UMA Protocol via Risk Labs.
