FAQ
About VeChain (VET)
What Is VeChain (VET) and How Does It Work?
VeChain is a public, enterprise-focused layer-1 blockchain designed to streamline supply-chain management and business workflows by anchoring real-world asset data (via RFID, NFC, or IoT sensors) onto a tamper-proof distributed ledger. It operates on its PoA-based VeChainThor network using a dual-token system, VET for value transfer (and staking to generate VTHO) and VTHO as the stable “gas” token for transaction fees, enabling fast, low-cost, and secure enterprise applications.
Who Founded VeChain and When Was It Launched?
VeChain was co-founded in 2015 by Sunny Lu (formerly CIO of Louis Vuitton China) and Jay Zhang (with a background in finance and risk management at PwC China) as a subsidiary of the Chinese blockchain firm Bitse. In August 2017, VeChain ran an ICO on Ethereum, issuing 1 billion VEN tokens and raising roughly $20 million, before setting out to build its own Layer-1 chain.
On June 30, 2018, VeChain officially migrated off Ethereum and launched the VeChainThor mainnet. At genesis, VEN was swapped 1:100 into the native VET token, and the first set of Authority Masternodes went live.
VeChain Roadmap Highlights
1. July 2018: Launch of the mobile wallet and X-Node binding service; token-swap support on major exchanges; resumption of X-Node monitoring.
2. 2019: Rollout of the PoA 2.0 consensus upgrade with Byzantine-fault-tolerant improvements.
3. 2021: Introduction of on-chain governance via VeVote and the launch of enterprise NFTs (eNFTs) for supply-chain use cases.
4. 2024-2025: “VeChain Renaissance” initiative, Galactica VIP upgrades, bringing four new VIPs to enhance smart contract capabilities, cross-chain interoperability, and green-certification tooling.
What Is the Difference Between VET and VTHO?
VeChain employs a dual-token model that cleanly separates speculative value from transaction costs:
1. VET (VeChain Token) • Serves as the primary value-transfer medium on VeChainThor and the staking asset that “generates” VTHO. • Its market price fluctuates with supply and demand, making it the token investors buy and hold for potential appreciation.
2. VTHO (VeThor Energy) • Acts as the “gas” token to pay for transaction fees and smart-contract execution on VeChainThor. • Supply is algorithmically adjusted (via VET staking rates and network usage) to keep per-transaction costs stable and predictable for enterprises.
By decoupling network-usage fees (VTHO) from store-of-value speculation (VET), VeChain ensures predictable operating costs for businesses while allowing VET to capture long-term value growth.
What Are the Primary Use Cases of VET Token?
VeChain’s VET token underpins real-world blockchain solutions, enabling transparent, end-to-end supply-chain traceability; product authentication and anti-counterfeiting via QR/NFC tags; real-time quality assurance in food, pharmaceuticals, and luxury goods; IoT integration for automated asset monitoring; and tokenization/asset-management services for digital certificates and carbon credits.
To trade VET on BingX, simply log in (or sign up and complete KYC), deposit USDT or another supported asset, navigate to the Spot > Markets page, search for the VET/USDT pair, and place a market or limit order at your desired price.
What Is VeChain Tokenomics?
VeChain’s tokenomics center on a fixed total supply of 86,712,634,466 VET, with ≈99% (≈85.99 billion VET) currently in circulation. At launch, that supply was allocated as follows: 41% to the public token sale, 9% to private investors, 23% to enterprise investors, 5% to co-founders and the development team, 12% for ongoing operations and technology development, and 10% for business development.
Each VET automatically generates VTHO at a base rate of 0.000432 VTHO/day, and under the recent “Renaissance” upgrades, VTHO issuance is now tied to total VET staked while 100% of base transaction fees are burned, leading to an annual inflation rate of 0.6 to 2.9% depending on staking levels, supporting predictable gas costs and a gradual shift toward deflationary dynamics.
How to Stake VET Tokens on VeChain Network
Staking VET on VeChain is simple and automatic; any VET you hold in a compatible wallet will begin earning VTHO immediately. Here’s how to get started:
1. Acquire VET Tokens: Buy VET on BingX or any major exchange (e.g., BingX). You can then withdraw the purchased VET tokens to your own wallet.
2. Choose & Set Up a VeChain-Compatible Wallet • Official VeChainThor Wallet (VeWorld/Sync2): Download and install the VeChainThor mobile or desktop wallet, then create/import your account. • Exodus Wallet: Simply install Exodus (mobile or desktop) and enable the VeChain network. Any VET you send here is automatically staked.
3. Transfer VET to Your Wallet: Send your VET from BingX (or another exchange) to your wallet’s VeChainThor address. Ensure you select the VeChainThor (VET) network when withdrawing.
4. Earn VTHO Automatically: Once VET lands in your wallet, staking begins at the protocol level; no manual delegation needed. You’ll generate VTHO at a base rate of 0.000432 VTHO per day for every 10,000 VET held. VTHO rewards appear in your wallet balance and can be used to pay transaction fees or traded on exchanges.
Pro Tip: If you’re an enterprise or wish to run a Validator (Authority) Node, a minimum stake of 25 million VET is required, and you’ll need to apply via the VeChainStats Manager to join the validator queue.
By simply holding VET in a supported wallet, you secure the network and earn VTHO rewards, making staking on VeChain effortless and cost-effective.
How Does VeChainThor's Consensus Mechanism Work?
VeChainThor runs on PoA 2.0 (“SURFACE”), a next-generation Proof-of-Authority consensus designed to meet enterprise demands for speed, security, and predictability. Rather than anonymous miners, a fixed set of Authority Masternodes, each KYC’d and reputation-bound, takes turns proposing blocks. By tying block production to known, vetted entities, PoA 2.0 maintains high throughput and low energy consumption while ensuring accountability and tamper resistance.
Under SURFACE, each round begins with a verifiable random function (VRF) that unpredictably selects a small committee of masternodes to produce blocks in rapid succession. Once blocks are proposed, a passive finality confirmation, drawing from Byzantine Fault Tolerance principles, is applied to irrevocably lock them in, combining Nakamoto-style liveness with BFT’s safety guarantees. This hybrid approach delivers sub-10-second block times, near-zero fork risk, and absolute finality, ideal for real-world supply-chain and IoT applications.
Which Wallets Support VET Tokens?
On BingX, you can securely store your VET tokens in your custodial exchange wallet, which leverages multi-layer cold storage, multi-signature protections, and an insurance fund to safeguard assets. Your VET holdings are instantly available for spot trading; simply navigate to the VET/USDT pair to buy or sell without waiting for on-chain confirmations on internal transfers, and enjoy 24/7 customer support for any wallet or trading inquiries.
For self-custody, you can use the official VeChainThor Wallet (VeWorld/Sync2.0) for full VET/VTHO key control; mobile apps like Trust Wallet (add VET as a custom asset for swaps and seed-phrase backup); cross-platform wallets Exodus or Atomic (supporting 1,000+ assets with built-in swaps and portfolio tracking); hardware devices such as Ledger Nano S/X via Ledger Live’s VeChain app and NFC “card” wallets like Tangem (which auto-accumulates VTHO); or the DeFi-focused Nufinetes wallet, offering multi-chain support, upcoming Ledger integration, and NFT capabilities.
What Makes VeChain a Good Investment?
VeChain’s strength lies in its real-world utility and deep enterprise integrations. With over 300 active partners, including PwC, BMW, Walmart China, and the UFC, VeChainThor has proven its ability to solve supply-chain pain points from anti-counterfeiting to IoT-powered asset tracking. Recent “Renaissance” upgrades, developed in partnership with Boston Consulting Group, add cross-chain interoperability, on-chain governance tools, and green-certification modules, positioning VET as a go-to blockchain for industries demanding transparency and sustainability.
On the token side, VeChain’s dual-token model and predictable fee structure make VET an attractive store of value. Holding VET automatically generates VTHO, used to pay for transaction gas, ensuring enterprise costs remain stable even as network usage grows. With a capped supply of 86.7 billion VET, declining net VTHO issuance via fee burns, and a roadmap featuring enhanced smart-contract capabilities and expanded NFT tooling, VET combines scarcity, utility, and built-in staking rewards, key pillars for long-term token appreciation.
